MSA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee

Mission and Values

Diversity is central to the mission of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in meeting the health needs of the people of Wisconsin and beyond through excellence in education, research, patient care and service. We strive to become a unified body of people demonstrating consciousness of equity, justice, and beneficence to our colleagues, patients, and all.

Medical Student for Minority Concerns

Who we are

Medical Students for Minority Concerns (MSMC) is dedicated to introducing medical students to the experiences of physicians and patients from minority backgrounds, advocating for the concerns of minority students to promote a more inclusive environment in the medical school, and providing opportunities for medical students to learn more about the challenges faced by minority populations in Madison.

Affiliated Organizations

Housed within MSMC are the following organizations:

  • Asian Pacific American Student Medical Association (APAMSA)

  • Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA)

  • Promoting Recognition of Identity, Dignity, and Equity (PRIDE) in Healthcare

  • Student National Medical Association (SNMA)

Activities and Projects

MSMC additionally coordinates admission and recruitment activities, such as interview day breakfasts and Extended Second Look weekend for admitted students and outreach events for high school students and undergraduates to connect community members across the state of Wisconsin to UWSMPH.

Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA)

Who we are

The Office of Multicultural Affairs at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health strives to promote a climate that embraces diversity and supports professional development for all students.

What we do

Some examples include:

  • Coordinating and developing programs and activities for pre-college, undergraduate and health professional students

  • Collaborating with undergraduate programs and advisors both locally and nation-wide, pre-health organizations, current students and the UW School of Medicine and Public Health’s offices of MD Admissions, Student Services and Medical Scientist Training Program; and the Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Genetic Counselor Studies, Master of Physician Assistant Studies and Master of Public Health programs

  • Offering advising and counseling for School of Medicine and Public Health students, and monitoring academic progress of students in the MD program

The Office of Multicultural Affairs works with numerous School of Medicine and Public Health programs to increase the number of historically underrepresented students in medicine.
